Project Overview
Newark Liberty International Airport
(EWR) is one of the busiest airports in North America and the
second busiest facility
in the New York Airport System behind John F. Kennedy International Airport. It's been a staple of air travel for New York and New Jersey since opening its doors in 1928, and now serves an average of nearly
45 million passengers each year
with that number continuing to increase today. As a local landmark with a history so closely connected with the very inception of commercial air travel, The Splash Lab is proud to participate in its most significant transformation yet. We once again collaborated with award-winning and internationally recognized architecture firm PGAL to design bathroom spaces for the iconic new ConRAC building – the core of EWR's all-new Terminal A. This milestone development is the first new terminal to be constructed in the airport's nearly 100 years of service, and therefore demanded a boldly contemporary solution. Discover how The Splash Lab helped create restroom spaces for Terminal A's 2.7 million square foot ConRAC building.
The process
The ConRAC building is a new $500,000,000 car rental facility in EWR that offers passengers improved services, brand-new amenity spaces, and a comprehensive travel experience that's more enjoyable than ever before. Having worked with us on several projects in the past, PGAL again chose our trusted products for the bathroom spaces of this immense undertaking. The Splash Lab was to produce contemporary solutions for the male, female and accessible bathrooms across all four floors of the ConRAC building. We needed to supply a universal product package that could be used within each bathroom space while matching a modern aesthetic appeal established throughout the facility.
Designed for the modern traveler
Like our design philosophy for the bathrooms in Dallas Fort Worth Terminal D, simplicity, ease of use and comfort are at the heart of ConRAC's bathroom design. Both new terminals elevate the airport experience for savvy travelers through modern technology and innovative features in every space. At ConRAC, The Splash Lab supplied a custom iteration of our Monolith A series in addition to our complete Ribbon collection for every bathroom – offering the functionality and durability necessary in these high-traffic areas while enhancing their striking visual appeal. Moreover, we supplied an ADA-compliant version of this product package for ConRAC's accessible bathrooms to ensure everyone could experience these indulgent spaces. The Monolith's modular construction accommodates multiple users at once with a strong solid surface basin that's easy to clean and maintain. We also included a custom countertop waste chute with an under-mount bin for enhanced user functionality. These basin systems are beautifully finished in Corian Glacier White with white pipe skirts for a clean visual that’s accentuated by crisp lines. The full range of our Ribbon collection is on display throughout these bathroom spaces as well. Brushed stainless steel soap dispensers, taps and hand dryers ascend to a crescendo of usability. Each fixture uses sensor technology to eliminate touchpoints and is arranged in sequence for an intuitive handwashing experience. Further, these Ribbon collection fixtures are tailored to dispense a uniform amount of soap with each activation, supply a consistent water flow rate with cascade aerators and reduce hand drying noise with the quietest dryer on the market.
Everything here works together to create inviting, refreshing and serene bathroom spaces all travelers can enjoy. Modern design challenges demand modern solutions, and ours uses boundary pushing products to reach a new standard of style and function. View the
